OK.. we are now paying for December temps being in the 40's & 50's!!!!!!!!!!! We were without power for 30 hours. Thank goodness we have a generator! Hopefully we won't lose power this round, but if we do we are prepared!

Winter weather advisory remains in effect until 3 am cst thursday, blizzard warning in effect from 6 am Thursday to 6 pm cst friday,
The NWS in des moines has issued a blizzard warning, which is in effect from 6 am Thursday to 6 pm cst friday. The blizzard watch is no longer in effect. A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 3 am cst Thursday.
A mix of freezing drizzle, sleet or snow will fall over the advisory area through the evening hours and end after midnight. The precipitation will be off and on and precipitation amounts will be light but any freezing precipitation falling over the area will only compound any remaining problems from last weekends ice storm.
The mixed precipitation will change over to snow during the morning hours Thursday. By late Thursday 5 to 9 inches of snow will fall. In addition to the snow, a very strong northwest wind will increase to 25 to 40 mph with higher gusts. This will cause blizzard conditions over the area. The blizzard conditions will persist through Friday when the wind will begin to diminish.
A blizzard warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.
A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

Snow tonight low of 25, tomorrow snow to rain mix! Yippee.

I think I've got Georgia on my mind!

Oh wait, that's just Tess!

dicksbro 03-01-2007 03:53 AM

37F under cloudy skies right now. Suppose to get up to 48F today, but with a chance of thunderstorms this morning and a wintry mix later this afternoon.

We really don't need the water right now, but at least it's not icing.

sodaklostsoul 03-01-2007 07:49 AM

We got the ice DB, its 34, thunder and icy rain. Poor little tree has icy droplets hanging on it.

IowaMan 03-01-2007 07:54 AM

We had thunderstorms overnight here. Right now there's a little bit of rain and the temp is right at 32F. Supposedly the storm Cheyanne mentioned is going to send the snow north of where I'm located. Hoping that most of the precip is in the form of rain but it really could go either way, rain or ice. The winds still haven't let up and we've got gust up to 40 mph right now that are supposed to continue throughout the next couple of days.

But the Cubs have their first Spring Training baseball game in Arizona today so all is right with my world. :D

scotzoidman 03-01-2007 09:43 AM

52F with rain, mid-south under a tornado watch until 6 pm cst

wyndhy 03-01-2007 09:49 AM

stay safe!^^

smithy020 03-01-2007 09:51 AM

warm and sunny, slight breeze, tempts at about 8-10C's.

Cheyanne 03-01-2007 03:40 PM

Well, the gov declared all 99 counties in Iowa disaster areas becasue of the last storm and this storm.

We are in the area to receive 14-16 inches of snow. We have power at the moment, but the electricity intermitently fluctuates off/on. I imagine we will lose power again tonight. At least we have a generator and fireplaces. I35 from Ames north has been closed as well as I80 West of Des Moines. Blizzard conditions now, we can't see past our trees at the lower end of our yard. It is kinda pretty actually - I will try and get some pictures to post later when the power fluctuations aren't an issue.

Well, I am typing this via my battery backup! Time to sign off I think so I don't damage my computer.

Oldfart 03-03-2007 11:42 AM

We are stuck in the tail end of a bit of weather that tried for a week to be a cyclone, and by the time it succeeds it will hopefully be 500 miles west of here, heading further away.

We've had about 18 inches of rain here, which is cruel when the rest of the country would sacrifice every politician they could lay their hands on to get a piece of this wet action.

Maybe two or three days yet.

dicksbro 03-03-2007 06:56 PM

Cold. Bloody cold. Howling wind. Brrrrrr!

I'm ready for spring.

IowaMan 03-05-2007 07:27 AM

It's about 25F here right now and a little bit breezy. Supposed to be around 30F for a high here today and they keep teasing us by saying that in a few days we may hit 50F. Not so sure I'm buying it.

1nutworld 03-09-2007 02:15 PM

46 degrees and very sunny. Splotches of grass are starting to peep thru the melting snow.

IowaMan 03-09-2007 04:28 PM

It's foggy and rainy here right now, about 37F for the temp.

It's absolutely a beautiful day in the metropolis today. Right now it's sunny and 57F. We're supposed to hit 64F later this afternoon. :loveshowe:

The puddles and mud from the weekend melt are starting to dry out. :D

Hmmmm, I see it's supposed to hit 90F out at my parent's place in California today. I think I'll be content with sunny and 64F.

IowaMan 03-13-2007 06:49 AM

WOOHOO!!!!! The forecast is for a high of 73F here today with mostly sunny skies. :nana:

It's already 53F......... I'd be more than happy with that as the high temp.

Of course, right after they told us that we could have record high temps today the kind folks of the morning news followed with a story about how gas prices will continue to go up. Why in the world would they choose to do that?

1nutworld 03-13-2007 08:33 AM

sunny and 49 at the moment, supposed to get to 65.

sodaklostsoul 03-13-2007 09:23 AM

Sunny and 55, think I saw like 62 today.

1nutworld 03-13-2007 02:24 PM

made it all the way to 70 degrees, and I've got the window's open.
What a day!

sodaklostsoul 03-13-2007 10:06 PM

Our high today was 68 and it's 67 according to weatherbug right now.

Scarecrow 03-13-2007 10:35 PM

Tied a record high today, 78f. But on Thursday will be hard to reach 55f.

dicksbro 03-14-2007 06:32 AM

57F right now. Suppose to get up to the mid-70s today but with a chance of some thunderstorms. The, tomorrow will drop sharply with the highs only expected in the 40s. :(

wyndhy 03-16-2007 11:19 AM

the past few days have had every season packed in.
tuesday was just like spring, birds and bugs, a light rain here and there...it even smelled like spring. wednesday and early thurs were so warm, the sun was hot, it was even a little humid, and you could smell that summer smell. then yesterday afternoon, it got cold and then windy so dead leaves were blowing all around…just like autumn, and this morning we woke up to sleet and snow.

so bizarre

IowaMan 03-16-2007 12:31 PM

It's a really *blah* sort of day here today. Dreary, cold and windy. Right now it's 32F but it has been so nice lately that it just seems to be much colder. :(

themi01 03-16-2007 05:27 PM

What's worse 3/4" of ice or 18 " of snow.....after just clearing my driveway ....That ice kick my A@@... might have been worse than that blizzard we had a couple years back... At least then I could blow and plow

dicksbro 03-19-2007 05:19 AM

There was some thunder a few minutes ago, but that appears to have moved on past now. Right now it's 38F under mostly cloudy skies. The weather map looks like some more rain is nearing us, but it should all clear off later this morning and turning sunny with a high in the upper 50's.

ReaperWoman 03-19-2007 07:21 AM

Was a nice sunny spring day. I went into the library for 15 mins and came out to a sky-ful of snow. It lasted for about 10 mins and then went away again. Oh how I love March...

IowaMan 03-19-2007 01:59 PM

Pretty nice afternoon here today. It's 52F right now and very sunny. A bit breezy but nothing too terrible.

sodaklostsoul 03-19-2007 07:05 PM

We hit 48F with sun and a bit of wind. Came out nice considering it was almost sleeting this AM.

PantyFanatic 03-19-2007 08:32 PM

It WAS sleeting all day , ....JUST above freezing with falling slush!

The WORST. :hair:

I would rather give up the few degrees and have snow than this. :banghead:

............ especially if I was camping.

dicksbro 03-19-2007 08:45 PM

Someone's turned the sun off and it's gotten dark and cooler. :yikes:

wyndhy 03-20-2007 03:12 PM

the last few days ... snowing, melting, raining, snowing, melting
anybody wants to mudwrestle, my yard would be a good place.

Scarecrow 03-20-2007 06:12 PM

all right naked mudwrestling at Wyndhy's ^^^

dicksbro 03-22-2007 04:42 AM

We may be fixing up central Illinois to be an alternative mudwrestling site. It's 64F :yikes: with a thunderstorm. Just south of us they're saying there's a chance of 60 mph winds and hail that could reach baseball size :yikes: !!! Almost feels more like summer than spring. Looks like rain will persist in the area for most of the next week.

jseal 03-22-2007 05:32 AM

Spring is approaching. :)

sodaklostsoul 03-22-2007 05:47 AM

DB we got a big thunderstorm right now. Its 63 with lots of rain and wind. Abner is hiding under the couch. Had a good storm last night too.

IowaMan 03-22-2007 08:14 AM

Poor Abner. :(

Absolutely gorgeous morning here today. It's about 42F and sunny right now and is supposed to be in the mid-50's for a high. More rain for us scheduled for tomorrow though.

dicksbro 03-22-2007 06:29 PM

After some morning showers, it was a beautiful day. Now, though, I here thunder rumbling closer and expect the rain to start soon. :(

IowaMan 03-23-2007 10:38 AM

It's gloomy and just sort of blah here right now. Mid-40's temp. It rained most of the night so everything is nice and soggy. :(

Great day to be someplace else. I'm thinking sunny California! :p
