We're at $1.28 here. I don't idle the car much any more. :(
Oops ... $2.28. Sorry ... just noticed that. I wish it were $ 1.28. IAKG (below) was right. :D |
I'm thinking DB may have had finger dyslexia or something this morning--or I'm moving to where he lives. :)
|
Can I interest you in a UK gallon of gas?
£3.58 per gallon or 83p per liter. This translates to (£1=$1.87) to $6.69 per gallon. So whats you all complaining about? |
Yikes! That's awful!
Kleclere drives 1 hour, 20 minutes to and from work each day--about 60 miles one way. It *does* begin to hurt. |

Plus when you add in all the insurances and taxes over here, it get more and more expensive. I prefer to live a little dangerously, I cycle everywhere in this city. And if I can't, I take a bus... I've never learnt how to drive, and don't intend to start. I've never caught the bug. |
It hit $2.24 a gallon for the cheap stuff here.

Years ago,I quit one job & went to another job, nearer to me,for just that reason.I took an almost $1 an Hr.cut in pay but soon got it back.On the original job,I was Foreman & head-mechanic.On the new job,I was just a mechanic But I cut out a Toll each way & soon became head mechanic of the new place. In NH,commuting in the winter sucks. You just have to have confidence in your abilities. As far as the price of gas goes, you have to buy it anyway.Like anything else, complaining about it,makes no difference so just go wih the flow & keep your vechicles tuned right. Irish |
Proud to say the city I live in has the most expensive in the state.......average cheap stuff is $2.45.
|
Some parts of Oz are up to AU$1.20 per litre
Here in my town Unleaded is AU$0.99c (soon to go up again i feel) Diesel is AU$1.12c per litre Autogas is AU$.049c per litre We get is a bit cheaper than the rest of the country because we pay a fuel levy in our vehicle registration The fuel prices are a killer....i drive 75km per day for work alone...cost me approx AU$35-40 per week to run my car (think its time to seriously look at getting the motorbike back on the road!) When i first moved to Qld, fuel was sitting around the AU$0.55c per litre |
I know up in Canada liters are going for around a buck.......they're really getting hosed.

But if we did'nt complain about we would'nt be human. |
Public transportation is almost an unknown word in Iowa, and, Irish, so are jobs in certain sectors. Believe me, kleclere and I have searched for MONTHS (Cheyanne, jump in here anytime :D ) for something closer, even at a lower wage. Fortunately, he drives a pretty fuel-efficient car, but it's painful, no matter who you are or how far you have to drive to make a living.
Unfortunately, gas prices are one of those things over which we, the consumers, have limited control beyond carpooling, unnecessary trips, or "frivolous" driving. :( |
$2.38 for a gallon of regular in MS and thats the low side, depending on where you go it gets up into the $2.50+ range. Hubby was saying he heard it would be over $4.00 a gallon by the end of the summer.
Now I know how my parents feel when they say "when I was a kid you could go to the theatre on a quarter." When I was a kid you could fill up your car with a 10 dollar bill. |
Quote:
When I was a kid,you could do it for a 5 dollar bill & get change! Irish |
Regular was $2.20 here! Geez, I almost went into cardiac arrest when I had to pay for that!
Which by the way, my car gets HORRIBLE mileage. I fill up two times a week if not more. It could be a lot worse though. My mom's new car gets something like 16mpg highway :faint: I might add, I can go across the state line into Georgia and instantly get cheaper gas :rolleyes2 |

I got this today.

Saw $2.42 yesterday... and they are talking about raising our gas tax even more. :(
I know shit needs to get paid for... but damn! |
GRRR I know I don't have MUCH to complain about but I'm going to anyway. I'm having car troubles and one of the recommended solutions is to run the highest grade of gas in my car... two days ago the station nearest my house was $2.40 at 7am, by the time I got uptown (18 miles away) that station said $2.25. By the time I left work at 6pm the same uptown station was up to $2.30. Like I said I know based on the above I can't complain much but I'm still disgruntled.
|
$2.25 / gal
|
$2.22
|
its 2.15 gal. here
!st quarter profits come out next month it will be interesting to see them.I work in the oil and gas industry and the powers that be are telling us gas will go up another 85 cents + by the end of the year! |
$2.47 tonight at the "cheap station" for the "cheap stuff". Stupid damn California prices
|
$2.36 here for regular 87 octane.
suppose to jump up again this weekend |
WHERE TO BUY YOUR GAS,
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW READ ON-- Why didn't George W. think of this? Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it. It might be good for us The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We should return the favor. An interesting thought it to boycott their GAS. Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia. Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis. Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends. I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle Eastern oil : Shell............................. 205,742,000 barrels Chevron/Texaco......... 144,332,000 barrels Exxon /Mobil............... 130,082,000 barrels Marathon/Speedway... 117,740,000 barrels Amoco............................62,231,000 barrels If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION! Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil: Citgo.......................0 barrels Sunoco.............. .....0 barrels Conoco...................0 barrels Sinclair....................0 barrels BP/Phillips..............0 barrels Hess........................0 barrels ARC0.0 barrels All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing. Irish  |
Man, I have thought long and hard about a reply to this post. I think that I am going to be on the outside here and say that I do not mind the high gas prices... it will finally force us to think a little more about huge ass vehicles here in the US as well as considering other fuel sources (however, this does not mean I condone the current thinking with hybrid vehicles or fuel cell cars... they are just as bad with either huge battery packs or with a fuel that takes more energy to "bottle" than it delivers). In any case... I could go on for quite a while about all of this but will choose to just duck out of the thread.
And re: the post about middle eastern oil and the boycott, a little research should lead y'all to see that even though they are a main supplier of oil we only really import ~15% from them... it's the ability of OPEC (which also includes South American companies) to control the price that makes a difference. Of course it might also make a difference if the U.S. decided to modernize refineries (which we have not done in many years) or get their heads out of the clouds when it comes to the idea that we are somehow entitled to cheap fuel as long as it does not have to come from somewhere that would pollute our own lands. And I also do not think that it is so bad that a gallon of gas might cost more than a gallon of milk... oh, wait... we actually pay to keep the price of milk high... Maybe we should consider finding a way to harness methane from the dairy cows... heck, they only eat feed... which we pay our farmers to no grow! CRAP! I'm on a soap box again... I'm bailing now while I still can. I better go tank up the SUV while I still can afford it (yes, I actually do have a V8 SUV which I use in winter as it is a 4WD and to tow a trailer... other times I drive a nice 2.0L car... which in some countries is still considered outrageous!). DOH!... I'm going now.... |
Interestingly enough, Denton County, Texas has recently unveiled their plan and it's "success" for alternative fuel sources. It's not a new discovery, but they are one of the first in the nation (or at least local news sources say so) to take advantage of bio-diesel. They made a $650,000 USD investment in using methane gas captured from landfills and refined/recycled restaurant grease to produce bio-diesel for all the counties vehicles. Presently they are able to supply the fuel to themselves for about $1 USD/gallon. Part of the longer term plan is to produce more than the county can use in it's vehicles and sell to other sources. They believe the $650,000 investment will pay off quite quickly with the rate at which fuel prices are rising.

As I have stated before.Most of my life,people have come to me,to build custom,cars & motorcycles,with large,powerful,big HP engines.I have found
that the people, that BITCH &COMPLAIN the most, are the ones that want everyone else,to drive more conservative vehicles! It's as my father said, when I started racing motorcycles(already raced cars)-Once it gets in your blood, it stays there.I didn't believe him then but ,over the years,I found that he was right! Irish |
Wether you drive a small vehicle or a big vehicle...it doesnt change the price you have to pay per litre/gallon
I drive a 6 cylinder...my choice and yep i whinge about the amount i pay...but i need a family size car...a small car just will not do what i require of it If i could get by with a small more economical vehicle..i'd have it in a heartbeat...and guess what...i'd still be bitching about the amout i have to pay per litre*LOL* I'd really like one of them Electric/Petrol cars myself....but a bit on the pricey side just yet...and unfortunately just too small Update on pricing Unleaded: AU$1.02c / litre Diesel: AU$1.15 / litre Gas: AU$0.49 / litre and unsure what the new E10 fuel is worth as its not available here as yet |
I paid 96.5 per liter yesterday....they predict one dollar per liter within the next week or so.
|
just hit an all time high
85.9pence a litre.. thats like 1.6 US dollars a litre!!!!!!!!!! |
You want something to worry about ... check out http://wallstreetwindow.com/oil.htm
Just a brief quote ... "Oil is far too cheap at the moment," says Mr Simmons. "The figure I'd use is around $182 a barrel. We need to price oil realistically to control its demand. That is because global production is peaking." Have a nice day ... :) |
Just paid $2.19 a gallon here.... I used to be able to fill up the car with $20, now it takes $40... :(
This really hits us hard. We don't go on trips to begin with because we can't afford them. We don't make unnecessary trips into town (we live in the country) if we don't have to. We do drive 40 minutes away to do our shopping because the amount of gas used doesn't bite into the amount of $$$ we save by going to a larger city to make our purchases. We can buy a gallon of milk 80 cents cheaper in the city than in our small town. We save around $20 - $30 weekly doing our grocery shopping this way. To some, that may not matter, but to us on a VERY limited budget anything helps. This, I am afraid, isn't going to be true for very long. Not only is gasoline going up, but the products that are delivered by vehicles are also going up to compensate for the cost of delivery. .........and our wages aren't keeping up either.. :( Part of me resents those who complain about not being able to take their 2nd vacation of the year because gas prices are too high. I also cringe when someone who owns a $40,000 vehicle or a really nice boat complains about not being able to go fishing or boating because of high gas prices. I become angry when I hear people who own vehicles that get 5 miles to a gallon complain about how much money it takes to fill up their tank and in the same breath make plans to go to a really expensive dinner - and that the cost of that one meal would feed my family for a week. To each their own, but don't bitch to me about that kind of stuff - I just worry about putting food on the table for my kids, getting them to school, doctor appts, sporting events and friends houses. I worry about how I am going to put a meal on the table vs. having enough gas in the car to get me to work to earn the money I need to keep my family going for the next 2 weeks until I get paid again. I worry about if I am going to be able to afford the LP to heat my home in the winter or if we are going to have to wear layers of clothing just to keep warm. Our neighbor has horses - I keep looking at them and then at wagons..... hmmmmmmmm? |
Looking for an E85 gas station. E85 is only 15% gas and 85% ethenal. There are only 400 stations in the US. GM has a large number of cars that use E85 and most Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep V-6 3.3 liter engines will use gas,E10 or E85 Ford also has a numver of cars that will use E85. You will not get as good gas milage with E85, only about 75% of gas.

Also just ask DB, Chey or IAKG, we are not running out of Corn.
|
The thing about ethanol fuels is that it is yet another fuel where you are creating it by using a good deal of energy and resources for a fuel that is not comparable to the ones it replaces... it does burn a lot cleaner which is a good thing. My current take on all of it is hoping that others follow some of the leads in those that are producing and using bio-diesel (oil from soy or corn). With some of the recent advances in filtration we can make a diesel run rather clean. If you then followed that up with creating a high efficiency diesel generator that could provide power to an electric drive train... oh well.. some day.

As of last night- $2.69/gal for the "cheap stuff".

i paid $1.17 per litre Oz today or around $AD5.25 per Gal
