I actually thought about this earlier when I was on the phone with a VERY special Pixie and my call waiting beep cut through the line. At that particular moment there was NO way I was going to answer the other line. Looking at a couple threads today it looks like this may happen often. SO...

Thank God for caller ID...I'd be pissed to be put on hold/to put someone on hold, at that 'point of no return' only to find out it was a telemarketer:p

I don't have call waiting but I have kids who decide to come home early for no damn reason, just cause they can. grrrrr.....
Usually that ends the call no matter whats going on. :(

I am neither a trauma surgeon, nor a volunteer fire fighter. As such, I don't fall into the only two categories I think need to be contactable every minute of the day (there may be more, but damned few). I figure most other people don't get calls that can't wait five minutes. I don't usually stop clean conversations for call waiting...and unless the person on the phone fits one of the above categories ...I'd be a little miffed that they didn't think whoever was calling could wait however many minutes it took.

But hey, that's just the world according to me ;).

I like the “world according to you” Ginger. :) I feel the same way. I’ve NEVER wanted call-waiting and didn’t have it until voice mail ONLY came with it. I can only talk to one person at a time and believe “first come, first serve”. If somebody gets the *busy*, they can call back or leave a message. When somebody interrupts our conversation with “can you hold?”, I say NO! Call me back if you want to talk to me. :mad:

I will never have call waiting (as long as I'm childless anyway). I prefer to have voice mail pick up for the second caller.

I'm inclined to agree about the uselessness of call waiting in most instances, I have put friends on hold to find some *&^%$$# telemarketer on the other line (& dog-cussed same for the intrusion), but if you have teens (as I do) CW is a necessary evil, esp. if you have elderly relatives (as I also do) who might need help at a moment's notice...

You know I'm not embarrased of you, but after that incident at the restaurant with the waiter and the firehose I can't trust you in public...

I have very long phone conversations at times and am glad I have call waiting in case my husband needs to call me for a second or two. But I have caller ID for my call waiting so if it beeps I check it and then decide usualy to just end the call if I need to take the second one.
