Transitions — Slobodan Milosevic

Slobodan Milosevic has died in prison in The Hague while on trial at the UN war crimes tribunal for genocide and other war crimes. He was 64 years old.

Mr. Milosevic was the leader of Yugoslavia when that government’s policies to some of its citizens led President Clinton to use NATO to force the Yugoslav armed forces to withdraw from the areas of contention.

Mr. Milosevic’s request to go to Russia for medical treatment was rejected last month. He had high blood pressure and a heart condition.

Hmmm.....so I guess we'll never know what his punishment would have been.

jseal 03-11-2006 11:05 AM

osuche,

I guess not. Few will mourn his passing, I suspect.

lakritze 03-11-2006 11:13 AM

Why was his request for medical treatment rejected? I suspect this as become a trend in prisons everywhere.

Oldfart 03-11-2006 11:41 AM

His request was rejected because the Court had fears he would claim sanctuary in Russia.

I'm assuming they refused the request for treatment in Russia, not the treatment itself.

Was anyone else disappointed when Saddam Hussein stopped his hunger strike?

lakritze 03-11-2006 05:40 PM

They got Saddam to stop his hunger strike by waiving some new Fiery Habanero Doritos under his nose. MMMMM My new favourite snack.

jseal 03-11-2006 05:44 PM

lakritze,

Aren't habanero peppers the very very hot ones?

lakritze 03-11-2006 05:57 PM

Yes they are.But they are toned down a bit for the new Doritos. Just enough spice to enjoy, before being washed down with an ice cold amber ale.

GUINESS BOOK OF RECORDS- "HOTTEST PEPPER ON EARTH" is

Red Savina Habanero

scotzoidman 03-12-2006 02:49 AM

Hopefully they have an eternal supply of the peppers waiting in Hell for Milosevic...& no ice cold ale for his thirst...he sanctioned genocide in the name of nationalism in his insane bid to gain & retain power...a poor man's Hitler, IMO...

Oldfart 03-12-2006 01:20 PM

Scotz, in the same part of the world, Dracula is still venerated as the savior from the Ottomans.

His little antisocial habits like impaling and locking the poor/lame/insane/maimed in barns and burning them seem to have slipped their minds.

Steph,

Not me. If he is innocent of the crimes he is accused of, let his trial show it.

gekkogecko 03-13-2006 10:57 AM

And the latest this morning is that he had unprescribed drugs in his system. The specualtion is that he was taking them in order to try and worsen his condition so as to increase his chances that his request for medical treatment in Russia would succeed. Russia is saying that they "don't trust" the autoposy results. And meanwhile, back on the farm, the home folks are saying that they won't give Milosovic a state funeral.

Ah, international politics. Real-life soap opera.
