Last night’s show was simply awesome! Both Lovehammers and INXS were incredible and played highly energetic sets. The Lovehammers came out first, to a full capacity house (which isn’t usually the case for the opening act), and performed a set mainly featuring songs from their upcoming CD due to be released this coming Tuesday, Jan 24th. They played one cover song, Ring of Fire, and just plain kicked ass through the whole show. Some of my faves were The Tunnel, Eyes Can’t See, and Call of Distress. Marty was very much Marty... scary conductor and all. After not being searched or anything of the sort at the door I was kicking myself for not bringing a camera. (Later I would realize just how big a folly this would prove to be.) Also, during their performance Marty made it clear that he had been in the band since he was 13 and it’s not ‘Marty Casey & Lovehammers’, it's not about Marty Casey, it’s just Lovehammers... four friends that love playing music together. He was also very gracious to INXS saying they were treating them so good on the tour. Of course they finished the set with an amped up, extended version of Trees. They were just so fucking good.
After getting most of the Lovehammers equipment off the stage (there was a black curtain behind them effectively cutting the stage in half, which didn’t leave a lot of room in front ) a 20:00 countdown clock was projected onto a screen onstage. As it neared 00:00 the anticipation grew and when the timer ran out the curtain dropped and the band started straight into Suicide Blond. As someone who really disliked JD I have to admit he is a great fit for the band. He sounded great and had really good presence. If you’re of the inclination that JD is hot, you would have been very hot and bothered by the end of the third song. I was surprised that they didn’t play a lot from the new album but really stuck to their old hits. Disappear, New Sensation, Need You Tonight, Never Tear Us Apart, Kick, Original Sin, What You Need, and more I’m sure I don’t remember right now. They played Pretty Vegas, Devil’s Party, Hungry, Afterglow (One of my fave new songs), and Never Let you Go from the new album. All in all a very full set.
Cont’d…
