Some day I'm going to stay at the Westin St. Francis right on Union Square, but haven't yet. I've stayed at the hotel formerly known as the Cartwright, but evidently is now called the Larkspur and it was nice and affordable. The rooms are small and old-fashioned, but charming and cute. Some girlfriends of mine always stay there when they go. It's not on Union Square, but only a few blocks away (I regularly managed the walk in one of those walking cast boots), and it's right off Powell on Sutter, so you can catch the Powell/Hyde cable car if you want and take it down to Market, or all the way up to Ghirardelli Square. How long do you get to go for?
